The activity was part of a team building exercise as eight teens from around the state met at the Utah Air National Guard base to learn more about their roles as the first "Speak Out for Military Kids" team in the state. SOMK is a youth-led, adult-sponsored program created to help educate communities about military deployment issues and the effect it has on military families. Each teen has experienced either a mom or dad being deployed and knows first-hand how kids struggle while a parent is away serving their country.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Lt. Col. Lisa Olsen, 151st Air Refueling Wing Community Manager, and Chief Master Sgt. Kyle Dillingham, 151st ARW Command Chief, receive the wing's Combined Federal Campaign Award for "Large Organization in Utah" on January 28. The award recognizes a Utah federal agency with the highest percentage of participation in the program, and has more than 300 people in the organization. The venerable KC-135 rolled off the assembly line in 1958 and has participated in every major conflict the United States has been involved in since. The plane is projected to fly well past it's 75 birthday.

Festival of Trees 2008
Over 800 fully light and decorated trees were auctioned and sold as part of the Primary Childrens Hospital's annual Festival of Trees. The festival highlights not only trees, but also offers gingerbread houses, wreaths, and handmade candies for sale. All items for the festival are donated for charity. The trees are decorated and purchased by individuals, families, organizations, businesses, and church groups. The sale of the items benefits the Primary Children's Hospital, located in Salt Lake City and raised over $1.6 million in 2007.

Festival of Trees 2008

Dwight Nelson of the 151st Communications Flight, Utah Air National Guard engineer the sound for performers at the Primary Childrens Hospital's annual Festival of Trees. The sergeants are responsible for ensuring that the sound is mixed and the lights and show go off without a hitch as volunteers for the non-profit charity event. Performers entertain the crowds on two seperate stages as festival goers enjoy the lights and decorations of over 800 trees. The sale of the trees benefits the Primary Children's Hospital, located in Salt Lake City.

A F-86 is airlifted by a Nevada National Guard CH-47 from Battle Mountain Airport, Nev. to Wendover Airfield, Utah on Nov. 5.
A CH-47 "Chinook" helicopter, operated by the 1/189th Aviation, Nevada Army National Guard airlifts a Korean War-era F-86 L "Sabre" into the Wendover Airport in Utah on Nov. 5. The F-86 was being transported from the Battle Mountain Airport, located in Nevada to its new home at the historic Wendover Airfield Museum. The plane will be refurbished and used as a static display that will be open to the general public. Historic Wendover Airfield Foundation board member Jim Peterson said that the plane will be painted up with markings from the 191st Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, Utah Air National Guard which operated the F-86 L from 1958-1961. Peterson is hopeful that the plane will attact the general public to see the airfield and museum, which the Army Air Corps operated as a training base for heavy bomber aircraft during WWII.

Winston P. Wilson National Shooting match
Master Sgt. Bryant Buttars (right), 151st Logistics Readiness Squadron, competes in a pistol match in the Winston P. Wilson National Shooting match in Little Rock, Ark. on October 13. Sergeant Buttars recieved a Bronze Pistol Excellence in Competition badge with wreath and a Silver Rifle EIC badge during the three-day match.

Chief McNee scores target Winston P. Wilson competition
Chief Master Sgt. Brent McNee, 151st Maintenance Group, helps score a competitor's target during a machine gun event at the Winston P. Wilson National Match in Little Rock, Ark. The national match was held Oct. 13 to 16, and included 17 different shooting events where more than 300 shooters from across the Army and Air National Guard competed. Six members of the Utah Air National Guard along with 12 members of the Utah Army Guard competed for national honors. Chief McNee was recognized nationally for being inducted into the "Association of Marksmen in the National Guard" Shooting Hall of Fame, a very prestigious honor recognizing his many years of shooting excellence.

Trunk or Treat
Chief Master Sgt. Robert Hill, Command Chief for the Utah Air National Guard, places a dog tag around the neck of a "trunk-or-treater" at the Utah National Guard's fifth annual Trunk-or-treat event. The event was hosted by the Utah National Guard's Family Programs Office and showcased several booths that UTNG children could trick-or-treat. The festivities also included clowns, bounce houses, and free hotdogs and soda.
