Col. Andrea Van Leeuwen

 

 

Colonel Andrea H. Van Leeuwen currently serves as the Joint Force Headquarters Director of Staff for Air, Utah Air National Guard. She serves as principal advisor to the Assistant Adjutant General for Air and is responsible for a wide range of functions including logistics, information systems, manpower and personnel, public affairs, recruiting and retention and state emergency response.

Col Van Leeuwen was born 9 September 1969 in Oceanside, California and graduated from Poway High School.  She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Columba College, SLC, Utah in 1996.  Col Van Leeuwen then completed her Masters Degree in Business Administration from The University of Phoenix in 2013. She has completed many career-related schools during her military career, including Logistics Readiness Officer School, Inspector General School, Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff School, and Air War College.

Col Van Leeuwen joined the Army Reserves in 1987 and served six years with a deployment in support of Operation Desert Storm. She moved to Utah and joined the Utah Air National Guard in 1993 where she served as a traditional guardsman.  She was selected for an Officer position in the Military Personnel Flight as the Training and Education Officer and attended The Academy of Military Science in 1999.  Col Van Leeuwen was selected for a full time position as the Installation Deployment Officer in 2004 and assigned to the Logistics Readiness Squadron where she also served as the Operations Officer. In 2011 Col Van Leeuwen was selected as the Deputy Inspector General for Air. In 2015 Col Van Leeuwen was selected as the Military Personnel Management Officer and assigned to State headquarters. In 2018 Col Van Leeuwen was assigned as the Director of Staff for Air.

Since joining the Guard Col Van Leeuwen has served in numerous capacities.  She started her career enlisted in the Operations Group in June 1993, was selected for a full time position in  Personnel in November 1993 before receiving her commission as Training and Education Officer in 1999.  She served as the Training and Education Officer until she was selected for a full time position with the Logistics Readiness Squadron in 2004.
