Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base -- U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Nathalia Salazar, commander support staff 109th Air Control Squadron, began her career in 2020 amidst challenges when she found herself without a supervisor in her initial unit. However, her determination and drive caught the attention of the wing staff, who took her under their wing and provided invaluable mentorship. She later moved to the 151st Operations Group, working diligently, even embarking on a deployment that further enriched her experience. The Utah Air National Guard recognized her talent, and she now serves as a full-time technician.
In an unexpected turn, Salazar found her calling in the sexual assault prevention response program (SAPR). Her involvement began with a role-playing exercise during training with the mental health director. Her exceptional performance led to her participation in training various units across the base. Salazar immersed herself in realistic scenarios, exposing units to real-life situations to improve their responses. Her impactful role earned her well-deserved appreciation, with prominent leaders presenting her with coins of recognition.
"The military goes far beyond warfare and being separated from loved ones," said Salazar. "The guard offers a unique and very supportive workplace; you have a sense of belonging, which I love.".
Beyond her impressive career, Salazar cherishes the sense of camaraderie and family within the Utah Air National Guard. Initially motivated by educational goals, Salazar joined the Air Force to ease the burden of juggling full-time work and studies. Her decision proved fruitful as she excelled in her studies while discovering a more profound purpose in serving her country. With her sights set on becoming an officer, her ambition and enthusiasm promise a future of further achievements.

"The best part of my job is I get to help all types of people," said Salazar. "We do a lot of admin work, but someone is always in need of help, and being able to make their day by helping is truly my favorite part."
