U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. James Techmeyer, a financial analyst, assigned to the 151st Comptroller Flight, has been part of the Utah Air National Guard for the last 15 years. Techmeyer started out as a Chinese linguist in the 169th Intelligence Squadron, then went on to become a personnelist in the 151st Air Refueling Wing commander’s support staff. He eventually found a permanent home after being accepted to a full-time position in the 151st CF.

As a Financial Analyst Tech. Sgt. Techmeyer has several very important roles, he helps members with their travel, pay and completes all of the accounting tasks. He is also the face that can reassure an individual if/when there is a problem or provide help understanding the regulations pertaining to being reimbursed for travel.

Techmeyer’s family plays an important role in his decision to join the military. His history goes all the way back to having grandfathers serving in different branches.

“My grandfathers were both in the military but died before I ever knew them, but I often think of the legacy I have inherited,” said Techmyer. “My paternal grandfather flew in a B-17 Flying Fortress as a top turret gunner and my maternal grandfather was in the Army, but switched to the Army Air Corp. as a supply sergeant.”

Techmeyer goes on to say that he loves being in the Utah Air National Guard and can’t imagine how different his life would have been had he not joined.

“I hope to continue enriching the culture that we have in the Utah Air National Guard and be able to take care of others, like the guard has taken care of me,” says Techmeyer. “A big part of myself is always going to be Utah Air National Guard, because it's been my home and you can't help but make that part of who you are.”
