Motorcycle safety “Spring Spike” campaign Published April 8, 2010 By Master Sgt. John Crow 151st ARW/SE SALT LAKE CITY -- With warmer weather on the way, it's time for the Utah ANG motorcycle riders to start preparing themselves now for a safe and enjoyable riding season. So what does "Spring Spike" mean for motorcycle riders? Air Force statistics show a spike in fatalities in the month of April. Looking over the past 10 years of data, April is the month the Air Force suffers the most motorcycle fatalities -- more than any single summer or fall month. The Air Force Safety Center, with the involvement of commanders and supervisors, feel we can turn this "Spring Spike" into a flat line. Below are links and information on training and tools to keep our riders safety this riding season. Motorcycle Safety Foundation training can be obtained in two different ways with two classes offered: Basic Riders Course for beginners and Experienced Rider Course for seasoned riders looking to refresh or sharpen their skills. Classes are offered at Hill AFB at no out of pocket cost to the member. For class dates and information visit: https://www2.hill.af.mil/moto/app/index.php. Classes begin in April and Airmen can select any Motorcycle Safety Foundation-approved class (www.msf-usa.org), and be reimbursed the cost of the class by the 151st ARW Safety Office after completion.
